SJAM Festival.

THANK YOU TOO ALL OUR 2020 PARTICIPANTS, VISITORS, VOLUNTEERS AND SPONSORS FOR AN AWESOME DAY OF RACES AND WINTER ACTIVITIES!!!

Stay tuned as we start planning for next year’s festival. For now enjoy Ottawa’s SJAM jewel this winter!

  • Date: Sunday January 19 from 9am – 1pm
  • Location: Remic Rapids Park off the Sir John A. McDonald Parkway by the Ottawa river. Check out our site here
  • Fun race schedule
    • 10:00 1km Ski Scurry (age 10 and under). View course here
    • 10:30 5km Ski Scoot (age 11 to grandparent!). View course here
    • 11:30 5km Fatbike Blast. View course here
  • Pre-race registration is requested as numbers are limited. Click here to register for all races through our partner, Dovercourt Recreation
    • FREE for children 10 years and younger
    • $10 for all other participants
    • Pick-up bibs between 9:00 – 9:45 for those who are pre-registered for the ski events and 10:30 – 11:15 for the bike event
  • Onsite registration will be available from 9:00-9:45 for the ski events and 10:30 – 11:15 for the bike event. However we strongly encourage you to register in advance
  • In the event of inclement weather, the festival may be cancelled.  Check this website for updates

Donations are welcome with all proceeds split between the ongoing operation of the SJAM winter trail and the snowsuit fund

About the SJAM.

THE SJAM IS A UNIQUE AND PRECIOUS ADDITION TO OTTAWA WINTER LIFE – WHERE ELSE CAN YOU SKI TO WORK?!

OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO RAISE AWARENESS, INCREASE USAGE AND RAISE FUNDS FOR ITS CONTINUED SURVIVAL.

The SJAM is a groomed multi-use winter trail along the Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) pathway that promotes active living, provides access to the Ottawa River shoreline, and welcomes a diversity of users, whether they are walking, on skis, snowshoes or a snow bike. The salt-free trail respects environmental sensitivities unique to the river shoreline.

Can I rent cross country skis or a fat bike for the races?2020-01-15T12:14:09+00:00

Yes. Cross country skis and fat bikes are available to rent from our partner Fresh Air Experience. For more information, click here, call 613-729-0032 or visit their store at 1291 Wellington Avenue.

How can I get involved and help as a festival and/or race volunteer?2020-01-02T18:42:17+00:00
We are looking for volunteers to help with pre-event set up, registration, race course aides and marshals, “Giant Skis” support, parking and drop-off control, ski playground supervision and cookie medal handout.

How do find out if the event has been cancelled?2020-01-02T17:48:12+00:00

If the festival needs to be cancelled, we will inform you through an update to this website.  We are unable to send a push notification directly to you based on your registration so please, especially in the case of weather and ski/bike conditions, monitor this website in the days leading up to the festival.

What happens if it is too cold or the ski and bike conditions are very poor?2020-01-02T17:49:48+00:00

The festival may be cancelled at the discretion of the organizers due to weather or conditions to run a fun and safe event.  Registration fees will be credited back to you through the Dovercourt registration system.  Please check this website for updates the day before and the day of the festival for updates.

Are there washroom or change room facilities on the site?2020-01-02T16:04:17+00:00

Onsite there is one outhouse and two portable potties.  600 metres away at the Champlain Fieldhouse there are heated washrooms.

The Norwegian embassy has kindly donated hot chocolate for the festival (Thank you!) but, unfortunately, the NCC Bistro @ Remic Rapids Park will NOT be open the day of the SJAM Festival so please bring your own food and drinks if desired.

Do I need to register for the Festival if I am not entering the Ski Scurry, Ski Scoot or Fat Bike Blast?2020-01-02T17:54:58+00:00

No.  You only need to register if you want to enter the Ski Scurry, Ski Scoot or Fat Bike blast races.

Can I ski or walk beside my young child doing the 1km Ski Scurry?2020-01-02T17:58:53+00:00

Yes. Parental assistance for young children doing the 1km Ski Scurry is allowed. Parents should register if they intend to assist their children.  The Ski Scurry is free.

If I do not have cross country skis or a fat bike, can I still participate?2020-01-15T12:13:32+00:00

Can I still enter the 5k Ski Scoot, 1km Ski Scurry or 5km Fat Bike Blast if I have not registered in advance?2020-01-02T18:03:39+00:00

Yes.  You can register on-site on the morning of the event.  Registration for the ski races are between 9:00am – 9:45am.  Registration for the fat bike race is between 10:30am – 11:15am.

Can we participate in the 1km Ski Scurry, 5km Ski Scoot or 5km Fat Bike Blast if we are beginners or have no race experience?2020-01-02T18:07:57+00:00

Yes. The Festival and all its events are for everyone no matter their level of experience. Everyone is encouraged to participate. All races will be be focused on having fun.  There will be no official timing.  Please note: Unless you are accompanying a child, the 1km Ski Scurry is for kids aged 10 and under.
