FAQ’s

FAQs.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED.

How do find out if the event has been cancelled?2018-01-12T06:02:04+00:00

If we have to cancel the event, the information will be posted on the sjam.ca website so please keep an eye on that site- especially if the weather is looking dodgy.  We are unable to push out a notification based on your registration so it will be important to monitor the website.

What happens if it is too cold or the conditions are otherwise un-skiable?2018-01-12T06:01:43+00:00

The event may be cancelled at the discretion of the organizers if it is too cold or the conditions are not conducive to a fun and safe event.  The registration fee will be credited back to you through the Dovercourt registration system.

Are there washroom or change room facilities on the site?2018-01-12T06:01:16+00:00

There is one outhouse on site.  Otherwise, there are also heated washrooms at the Champlain fieldhouse approximately 600m away.

Will there be food and beverages at the ski festival?2018-01-25T02:50:08+00:00

Some beverages available but bring your own food and drinks if desired.

Do I need to register for the event if I am not doing the Ski Scurry or Ski Scoot?2018-01-12T05:59:52+00:00

No.  You only need to formally register if you want to enter the 1km Ski Scurry or 5km Ski Scoot.

Can I ski or walk beside my young child doing the 1km Ski Scurry? Do I also need to register?2018-01-12T05:59:16+00:00

Yes. If needed, parental assistance for young children doing the 1km Ski Scurry is very much acceptable. Parents should also register.  The Ski Scurry is free.

What if I don’t have skis. Can I still participate?2018-01-12T05:56:55+00:00

Skis are available to rent from Fresh Air Experience at their store at 1291 Wellington or at their SJAM location by the Champlain Bridge that is only 800m west on the main SJAM ski trail from where the Ski Festival is taking place.  While you need skis to participate in the Ski Scoot or Ski Scurry, if you don’t have skis you could still come to the Ski Festival and participate in or watch the other activities.  Walker are allowed on the main SJAM ski trail.

Can I still enter the 5k Ski Scoot or 1km Ski Scurry if I have not registered in advance?2018-01-12T05:52:15+00:00
Yes.  You can register at the site on the morning of the event between 9:00am and 9:45am.
Can we participate in the 5km Ski Scoot or 1km Ski Scurry if we are just beginner skiers and have no race experience?2018-01-12T05:50:32+00:00
Yes 0f course.  The Ski Festival and all its events are for everyone no matter their level of skiing. The 5km Ski Scoot and 1km Ski Scurry will be casual races that anyone is encouraged to enter.  They will have no official timing or results to keep it focussed on fun. But note, unless you are accompanying a child, the 1km Ski Scurry it meant for kids aged 10 and under.
